Payment processing, fees, and financial obligations

1. Payment Processing

1.1 Accepted Payment Methods

  • Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
  • Debit cards with credit processing
  • Bank transfers (where available)
  • Digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay)

1.2 Payment Processors

  • Stripe for credit card processing
  • Coinbase for cryptocurrency transactions
  • All payments processed through secure, PCI-compliant systems

1.3 Currency Support

  • Primary currency: USD
  • Additional currencies supported in select regions
  • Automatic currency conversion at current rates
  • Exchange rate fees may apply

2. Platform Fees

2.1 Platform Fees (Based on Provider's Payout Method)

  • Stripe-verified providers: 5% of transaction amount
  • Coinbase-verified providers: 10% of transaction amount

2.2 Payment Processing Fees (What Clients Pay)

2.2.1 Stripe Processing Fees

  • Domestic cards: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
  • International cards: 3.4% + $0.30 per transaction
  • American Express: 3.5% + $0.30 per transaction
  • Currency conversion: Additional 1% for non-USD transactions
  • Disputed transactions: $15.00 per dispute
  • Failed payments: $0.25 per failed attempt

All client payments are processed through Stripe only. The provider's chosen payout method (Stripe or Coinbase) determines the platform fee rate.

2.3 Provider Payouts

Providers receive payments through their chosen method (Stripe or Coinbase). Payout fees and processing times are determined by the respective payment processor and are separate from Stackkd's platform fees.

  • Coinbase users: Refer to Coinbase's fee schedule

Stripe Provider Example ($1,000 service):

  • Service amount: $1,000.00
  • Platform fee (5%): $50.00
  • Stripe processing fee: $29.30
  • Total client pays: $1,079.30
  • Provider receives: $950.00

Coinbase Provider Example ($1,000 service):

  • Service amount: $1,000.00
  • Platform fee (10%): $100.00
  • Stripe processing fee: $29.30
  • Total client pays: $1,129.30
  • Provider receives: $900.00 (in USDC, minus any Coinbase conversion fees)

3. Retainer and Payment System

3.1 Retainer Process

  • Initial retainer payment held by Stackkd to activate agreements
  • Direct payments made from client to provider for completed work
  • Retainer released to client upon successful project completion and payment
  • In case of disputes, retainer may be released to provider if work was delivered and client failed to pay

3.2 Retainer Timeline

  • Service marketplace: Retainer held until work completion + payment confirmation
  • Job marketplace: Retainer held until project delivery + payment confirmation
  • Promotion marketplace: Retainer held until promotion delivery + payment confirmation
  • Custom agreements: Retainer held per negotiated terms

3.3 Retainer Release

Retainers are released by:

  • To client: When provider is paid directly and work is satisfactory
  • To provider: When client fails to pay after satisfactory work delivery
  • Dispute resolution: Based on evidence and mediation outcome
  • Automatic processing: 3-7 business days after release decision

4. Payout Terms

4.1 Payout Methods

  • Stripe: Direct bank deposit (5% platform fee)
  • Coinbase: USDC cryptocurrency (10% platform fee)

4.2 Payout Schedule

  • Direct client payments: Immediate (outside Stackkd system)
  • Retainer releases: 3-7 business days after decision
  • Dispute resolutions: 5-10 business days after final decision
  • Weekends and holidays may cause delays

4.3 Payout Requirements

  • Completed identity verification with chosen payment processor
  • Valid Stripe account or Coinbase wallet
  • Tax information on file (if required)
  • No pending disputes or violations

5. Failed Payments

5.1 Retainer Payment Failures

Common reasons for retainer payment failures:

  • Insufficient funds
  • Expired or invalid cards
  • Bank security restrictions
  • Technical processing errors

5.2 Failed Retainer Payment Process

  • Notification to client
  • Agreement remains inactive until payment successful
  • 48-hour grace period for resolution
  • Provider notified of payment delay

5.3 Client Direct Payment Issues

  • Stackkd does not process direct client-to-provider payments
  • Payment disputes between client and provider handled through our mediation
  • Non-payment may result in retainer release to provider
  • Repeated non-payment may result in account restrictions

6. Disputes and Chargebacks

6.1 Dispute Process

  • Use platform dispute system for all payment-related issues
  • Provide evidence of work delivery and payment attempts
  • Participate in mediation between client and provider
  • Accept binding arbitration decisions regarding retainer allocation

6.2 Chargeback Policy

  • Chargebacks only affect retainer payments to Stackkd
  • Direct client-provider payments are separate from chargeback process
  • Chargeback fees: $15 per occurrence
  • Account restrictions during chargeback investigation
  • Retainer may be released to provider if chargeback is deemed fraudulent

7. Tax Responsibilities

7.1 User Tax Obligations

  • Users responsible for all applicable taxes on earnings
  • Direct payments between clients and providers are user responsibility
  • Retainer releases may be subject to tax reporting
  • Consult tax professionals for guidance

7.2 Tax Compliance (Handled by Payment Processors)

  • Stripe Users: Tax reporting and 1099 form issuance handled by Stripe for US users receiving $600+ in retainer releases
  • Coinbase Users: Tax reporting and compliance handled by Coinbase for US users receiving $600+ in retainer releases
  • International Users: Tax compliance requirements vary by jurisdiction - payment processors handle reporting as required by local laws
  • Automatic Processing: Both Stripe and Coinbase manage tax form generation and filing with appropriate authorities
  • User Access: Tax documents available through users' respective payment processor accounts (Stripe or Coinbase dashboards)
  • Direct Payments: Client-to-provider payments made outside Stackkd are not subject to platform tax reporting
  • User Responsibility: Users must comply with their local tax obligations regardless of payment method chosen

8. Pricing and Promotions

8.1 Pricing Policy

  • Prices set by individual providers
  • Platform fees (5% or 10%) clearly disclosed based on payout method
  • Retainer amounts clearly determined during the funding period of the agreement
  • No hidden fees or charges

8.2 Pricing and Agreement Terms

  • Future Services: Providers may update pricing for new service listings anytime
  • Active Agreements: All terms (pricing, deliverables, timelines, retainer amounts) are locked and cannot be unilaterally changed
  • New Clients: See current pricing for new agreements
  • Modifications: Changes to active agreements require mutual consent and may trigger new retainer requirements
  • Protection: Both clients and providers are protected from unexpected price changes during active projects
